But, I'll look through it to see if there is a certain area or puzzle that is causing problems for people or if the game in general seems to be buggy. It's pretty much a dead giveaway when looking at the forum if that thread is 3 times longer than the reviews thread that there are probably some serious issues with the game. Can puzzles be skipped? Some games make you get through the puzzles before you can continue on and some of those puzzles may be too difficult (at least for me) to figure out.Īnd finally, I look at the Technical Issues threads.

Does it make sense? Do you have to go back and forth between levels several times to tie up ends or find pertinent items (I generally don't like having to do that but if it's not too bad, I might buy the game or at least trial it). *Storyline and the mechanics of the game. It doesn't happen that often, but it has happened. I have sometimes had to go searching for a strategy guide and even a hint button.
I don't want to be sitting around until my bum is glued to the chair waiting for that. I may miss something entirely and it's helpful to know about those little extras and what they may unlock. Games, especially HOGs with scenes described as objects difficult to find or HOG piles as dark are tough for me, so I usually won't even trial them (and along with that, penalties for clicks.if I'm groping around clicking blindly trying to find something, I don't want my cursor disabled for a period of time). It bums me out to pay for a game that lasts about 20 minutes longer than the trial. Rather than saying what I dislike though, I'll tell you what I find helpful in a review. The storyline was cute and made sense (in the context of the tale) and made for pleasant game play.ĭitto, although it's probably going to come to that. I bought it yesterday and played most of the afternoon and have yet to finish. That said, I enjoyed this game and thought it well worth the deal (now expired) on it. And if you don't like them or otherwise find fault with them, for heaven's sake, either ignore them or at least take your issues to PM instead of ripping someone a new one (either overtly or passive-aggressively) on the boards. Which sort of drives home the point that a review's merit (or lack thereof) is in the eye of the reader and we're all going to have different ideas about them. The way things are going, we're lucky to have Fishies willing to stick their respective toes (tails? fins?) in the water to write reviews much less tempt fate in writing one for the CE and one for the SE. Bonus chapters aren't available in the trials and without playing them, all that could really be said is that person's opinion, ie: maybe the CE wrapped up the storyline a little better (which may or may not be true.a lot of CEs I have purchased either time travel back to before the main storyline or include a bit more about one or more of the main characters). Why would someone buy both? The people who tend to review SE games are those who trialed the CE and waited for the SE for one reason or another. What is missing? Someone who plays a lot of CEs should take that on him or herself to do for us all! A right out, "This game had a fine ending in the SE,no need for the CE" or "The bonus game in the CE is wonderful and well worth it!" One thing I wish was always included in SE reviews was a comparison to the CE.
